Starter Removal

Hey all, this is prob a dumb question. but i have a 1937 truck with a flathead v8. My question is how do u go about removing the starter?? i have looked at it a bunch of times and just dont understand how it comes out without pulling the transmission and bellhousing off. Is there something im missing? Any help would be great thanks all.

The same long skinny bolts that hold the starter together also thread into the bellhousing to attach the starter to the engine. Either 3/8 or 7/16 wrench and unscrew them. The starter will try to come apart as you pull it out. I always put a nut on the backside after it's out to keep the starter in one piece.
