Howdy guys! I don't typycally come to this side of the forums, but I have a buddy with a 6.0 that I'm trying to help. Its a bone stock '05 and he has only taken it to the stealership for oil changes. Well, this last time in for an oil change, they said it has "multiple oil leaks", and want $7k to fix it all! HA!!
The only one that was noted in the estimate was the EGR, and they did not note where the other leaks are located. Are there any common places that oil can start leaking? Is this something that we can do on our own? I have just about every tool you can think of, and do all of my own work on my 7.3. I know this is a different animal, but I've heard they can be worked on without lifting the cab. Input and advice appreciated. Thanks!
In your case I recomend some floresent oil dye and a black light. Shows up a lot better.
There are a number of places on top the motor. Oil filter houseing to oil cooler gasket;oil cooler cover gasket; turbo inlet and drain lines even the filter houseing it self or the cap gasket.
And to name a real serous one Bed plate , have you sprayed it down and climbed around looking? where are you seeing most of the drips or oil at? How many Qt of oil are you putting in?
