Need transmission help

I bought a 1965 ford f100 a ehile ago as a project. One of the peices that i needed was a new transmission. I found one that was supposed to fit right in off of a 64 f100 but the bell housing was different. I need to know what kind of bell housing i need to make this all fit together. I have an inline 6 240 engine and the code i got off the new transmission is "C3TR-7A040-C W-1". It is a 3 on the tree. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

What's wrong with the bell housing your truck has now?

This is not the code for the trans. It's the casting number located on and for the extension housing itself.

Is your F100 2WD or 4WD?

1965/79 F100 2WD 240/300 I-6 uses a different bell housing than 1957/64 F100 223 I-6.

If this trans is from a 1957/64, it will not bolt to the 240's bell housing, as the case is different.

The TRANS ID tag was originally bolted to the back of the trans where the extension housing bolts on. It's probably missing by now.

What's wrong with the trans that your truck has now?

Scotty: Welcome to FTE. You will find a great deal of knowledge and experience here. Of the '61 to '66 Slicks, you have one made in the best years: '65 and '66.
I am sorry to hear that you were sold a transmission that will not work in your '65.
For future reference, it will help to use only '65 and later parts.
Although '64 and earlier trucks look like '65/'66, the similarity is only skin deep, and only in a few parts.
In '65, Ford introduced the Twin I-beam suspension, which meant changing almost everything. Steering, suspension, drivetrains, the frame and even the cab itself will not interchange after '64. (There are a few things that will interchange, such as hoods, fenders, and the back half of the '64.)
The good news is that you can do great upgrades fairly easily from trucks up to '79. The Twin I-beams and the front half of the frame stayed the same dimension wise, so transplants are pretty easy to do.

The 3 speed you need is a Ford 3.03, and is pretty common.

Best of luck to you, and again, Welcome to FTE!

My truck is 2wd and the transmission i got with the truck is trashed, i ended up in a lawsuit with the guy who was repairing it so as of right now i do not have it. Do you know what vehicles have the same transmission mine does, i would like to put in the same trans that came with the truck. I have the bell housing so im just looking fir a tranny that will bolt right on

Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh transmission.

Direct fit: 1965/66 F100 240/300 I-6 2WD with same wheelbase as your truck has now (either 114" or 129").

Will fit, but modifying the drive shaft will be necessary: 1967/79 F100 240/300 I-6 2WD / 1975/79 F150 300 I-6 2WD

240 I-6 cancelled at the end of the 1974 model run.

Suggest you join FTE's TX Chapter, the more people you know, the easier it will be to find parts.
