Ok so I have a question about the operation of the vacuum pump mounted on the passenger side fenderwell just behind the starter solenoid on my 03 6.0 F350.what exactly is the purpose of the pump.and this may sound stupid but would it in any way have any connection to an intermittent start issue.every so often when I turn the key to start I just get a bump and no crank I replaced my starter and still have the same issue if I keep trying the key it has always eventually turned over and fired up and if I use the remote start wire to battery it will work every time.i realize the vac pump is a long shot but dint know if there is some type of compression release associated with it.if anyone can shed some light on it this it would be great
There is no relation between the two that I am aware. The vacuum is for the automatic hubs and for the HVAC control.
As for the starter, do you have an alarm, or remote start? I get this if my alarm is triggered, then only unarm, unlock and remote start will work.
If not, check your cables, the big one, and the trigger wire. Did you put in the starter, is anything corroded? Other thing to do is check battery posts, clean them, and your ground straps to the frame, from frame to motor.
Report back if you are still having trouble, even good to report your findings, solutions.
Have fun, wiring and electrical apcan be frustrating.
Thanks for the info and suggestions I don't have any alarm or remote start though.i have checked over those grounds also and their all good I had some battery issues about two years ago and had my ficm crap out at the same time.i went with a new one from edsficm and after a lengthy phone conversation with him battery and electrical maintenance have been a top priority( by the way edsficm is the best )I mentioned in the o.p. That if I use the remote start wire to batt. it fires up every single time so that brings me back to your point of checking wiring I'm guessing start with the steering column and follow thru harness along firewall .again thanks a new perspective always seems to kickstart the thinking process
