I'm changing the glow plugs and tightening the injectors (if necessaary), but will not be removing the injectors.
I've noticed a tiny bit of oil pooled up around the GP's, and have already changed out the DS bank without having done anything to address this little bit of oil. The DS VC is still off, so I can still take any corrective action necessary, and I still have the passenger bank to do as well (replacing all 8 GP's).
So here is the question... do I need to do anything to address this tiny bit of oil seepage into the cylinders to prevent hydrolocking, or is the volume of oil seepage NOT large enough to cause a problem (again, this is for just a simple GP replacement WITHOUT removing any injectors)?
That little bit of oil won't be a problem, but when I did mine, I blew compressed air around the plugs to disperse the oil before removing them. You'll get some blue smoke on first start up, but it'll clear right up. Retorque your rocker arms while you're in there.
Pete it will be a none issue for you but she will smoke alittle on first start up. I just did GP's and I twisted a paper towel shoved it down around the GP to soak up some oil. I think it was a waste of time so when I did the other side I just changed them. But since you are there and have things apart it couldn't hurt to ohm the wiring harnesses and check ohms of injectors at the 42 pin plug. Just so you have a general idea of the health of things.
Thanks for the confirmation, guys. That is sort of what I expected, but wanted to double-check while I'm still in a position to take a different approach.
This GP replacement is only one small piece of another list of things I'm doing and have been discussing in this thread...https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ce-please.html, but I wanted to pull out the GP question as a single issue for two reasons:
1) not drag all the other stuff around for the little question, and
2) create a short little thread dealing only with the GP replacement issue so when someone searches and thinks they need this info, they won't have to wade through all the other stuff in the other thread just to get to this point.
If you read through my updates in Post 28 of the thread link above, I'm getting bolt torques taken care of under each VC as well as proactively replacing each wiring harness and gasket (among other things).
