Found a thread relating to the fuel filter location, dated 8-23-2010.
NumberDummy came to the rescue with the OE part numbers.
Have a 73 F250 FE390 with OE Carter 2150, 2 bbl carburetor.
Believe the OE had a small fuel filter threaded into the carburetor inlet port with a hose barb connection on the opposite end. A short rubber hose was connected between the steel line on the fuel pump discharge & the fuel filter barb connection with clamps.
Over the decades modifications have been done to the fuel system.
Are there any problems associated with replacing the rubber hose and threaded fuel filter with a single steel line from the fuel pump discharge
to the carburetor inlet port with a 1/8" npt X 1/2"-20 inverted flare brass fitting at the carburetor inlet port?
Is a fuel filter between the fuel pump discharge port and carburetor inlet port required?
Maybe OE short rubber hose insulates the fuel from the hot engine, so vaor lock does not occur.
Then install an inline metal case filter with hose barb connections in the 3/8" suction line to the fuel pump.
Believe this setup would be safer than having the rubber hose routed over the hot engine.
When I replaced my carb and fuel pump, I ran steel gas line from the fuel pump to filter to carb. Also, when I replaced my rear gas tank, I added a large inline filter to each gas line before the selector valve. Both items work fine. I like the idea of rubber hose being used as couplers instead of main fuel line where possible.
