Fuel Line Help

Newbie question here, but can someone tell me what the fuel line from the pump to carb should look like? I’ve noticed some gas leaking from mine and want to replace the whole thing as it looks cobbled together.

From the fuel pump I’ve got about a 3-4” section of rubber hose, then a curved metal section of line that heads up towards the carb and then another 8-10” or so of rubber line with an inline fuel filter installed before heading to the carb.

Should I just replace the whole thing with something like the aftermarket steel braided hose? It seems to be leaking from the first rubber hose to metal line connection.

What’s the best way to go about this withou spraying fuel everywhere? Much thanks in advance.

Hey Rukus, Welcome to FTE forums

Depends on how fancy you want to get, I had the same deal with my beast when I got it. It was an accident waiting to happen. NAPA and others have different lengths of straight 5/16ths steel brake line with NPT fittings on each end, bend it up how you want it and it will look factory when done. It's already double flared and everything and will bolt right up, maybe need a fitting or two depending what's on there now but I doubt it. Bring in the old line and fitting with you and they'll hook you right up.

Thanks for the reply Tedster. Am I correct in assuming that once I pull the line I’m only dealing with the fuel between the carb and fuel pump? I can’t imagine it’s that much to deal with.

I believe the line should be 5/16. As far as I can tell though, there’s no fittings anywhere, just hose clamps

Well you want to have some rags handy, and maybe pinch off any hose leading into the inlet into the mechanical fuel pump. Depending on the fuel pump arm angle, it could keep draining from the tank I expect. It will drain some from the carb too, not too bad, slide an old tuna can there or something like that. Just be safe, plenty of ventilation, do it outside. The fuel pump I use has an integral fuel filter, so the inline filter with rubber hose and clamps wasn't really necessary. But you want a fuel filter before the carb inlet for sure.

I don't know what engine you have but if you're making your own fuel line, (not buying a pre-fabbed line), it doesn't matter. You can route it however you want.

5/16" pump-to-carburetor hard line I made for my inline 300.

Unless you clue us in about what year, which engine, what carb., etc., you could get 38 kinds of opinions that don't matter to your truck...

I got mine for about $25 from inline tube. I went with stainless so it was a little higher. I didn't see it listed on their website but you might give them a call. They come pre-bent. You can see in the pic how it compares to the original line.
