292 Fluid Capacity
I have a 60 292 in my 56 f100. my 56 shop manual doesn't cover 292 unfortunately. Is oil capacity for 292 7 quarts with filter replacement like the 272 with 4bbl? my dipstick always shows that amount as too low, but if its right ill trim down my dipstick tube to match. thx Bart

There are two truck oil pans. One does hold more oil. A picture can be found here Need Some Skoolin in Oil Pans on the "Y"s
The standard truck pan is in the middle. That one is 6 quarts with filter. If that is what you have, then you have the wrong dipstick and / or tube.
The HD truck pan is at the top. If that's the one you have, then you probably need to add a quart to get to the mark.
The red one at the bottom is for a T-Bird.
Ah, here, I'll just steal a picture.
