Has the 5.4, heat works correctly on panel & defrost select. Anything involved with the floor defaults to the defrost. Also if the selector is on panel sometimes it will switch to defrost when climbing a hill (assuming there's a vacuum change there.) Thanks in advance guys!
you have a vacuum leak and the default is to defrost when vacuum is low. As listed on the above link, you may have a cracked vacuum hose on the firewall in front of the glovebox, or more toward the center of firewall (passenger side). Look at the plastic connectors and TEE fittings on the hoses. Remember there is a vacuum accumulator inside the passenger fender, behind the battery. Hoses can pull off, or canister can get damaged in an accident, etc............. If all else fails, you might have an internal leak on the controller on the dash. There are several hoses on the ****. One is vacuum inlet and several hoses out to various control cylinders.. The selector has O-rings between the ports to seal the vacuum... the rings can wear out and leak. Not a big job to replace.
This is a bit more than the common leak in the vacuum supply problem (although that may also be present) as there is an issue with the panel/floor vacuum motor and its panel. If it were solely an issue with the supply, the vent selection shouldn't work at all.
