Steering question?

Should my 64 truck be twice as hard to steer as my standard steering 62 Galaxie? They both drive out great but the Galaxie feels like power steering after driving the truck.

What kind of tires are on your 64? The stock meat back then was super skinny, and the patch on the road makes a big difference. My 09 Ranger has power assist that seems pretty weak to me. The 64 is fine to drive except, when stopped as in parallel parking. Otherwise should be comparable to your Galaxie if everything is up to snuff in the front end.

If the Galaxie had P/S, it would be Power Assist P/S. No Ranger came with Power Assist P/S

Power Assist P/S consists of a control valve and a hydraulic ram cylinder. There are 4 P/S hoses:

Two long hoses (pressure & return) route from the pump to the control valve. 2 short hoses (pressure & return) route from the control valve to the ram cylinder.

With Power Assist, the manual steering gear box is used...as it has nothing to do with the P/S

Well OK... What I meant to say is that the power steering in Rangers as a class isn't all that great, it's pretty stiff in my opinion. I'm pretty pleased with the handling in the 64, and it's as simple and quiet as it gets. But, parallel parking would be a bit of a workout.

Well it is a matter of the steering linkage and box to be in good shape, and maybe cars generally have a little easier time of it, don't really know. They aren't too bad to drive when everything works right and lubed.
