I have a 2003 F150 with the 5.4l engine that has been running rough the past several months. The common symptom is stalling at a stop sign when I hit the gas to speed up, it seems to take a few seconds before anything happens. However, it doesn't happen all the time. Also, once a month or so it takes a bit to start. It will crank and crank then it finally goes. In the past 3 weeks I have had the fuel filter and pump replaced thinking that would fix it. However, it has not. I've read about issues with the FPDM, but am not sure if or where that is on my 2003 truck. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!!
First, you don't have a FDPM in an 03 model year.
Only way now is to take a look at the live and stored data with a Scanner for anything out of limits and correct it..
Are you sure there are no codes set?
You seem to be describing an air leak into the intake system that has shifted the fuel tables lean.
This will raise drivability issues when engine is fully warmed.
The hard start needs a bit more investigation to find that cause like what is the fuel pressure etc.
Is the PATS system involved?
Always do diagnostics instead of trying to second guess the issues as it cost time and money without solving the issues.
Good luck.
Thanks Bluegrass 7, I figured there wasn't a FPDM since I couldn't find anything about it. A neighbor mechanic of mine checked the pressure on the fuel line prior to replacing the pump and he felt that was the issue, since a couple times with the key turned my pressure was ~0 and but then would later bounce up to 38psi. We'll check out the diagnostics..
