Hi guys!
Because we're measuring speed in km per hour and not miles per hour here in germany I have to have stupid stickers with km/h marks on my speedo by law except it would show km an miles together. I've seen that there are speedos available which have both scales and so it's obvious to swap the spedo with one that doesn't need this ugly stickers...
My question is if its possible to swap a 80 mph speedo with a 100mph type without other modifications because the one I have is 100mph while the mph/kmh combined speedos I have seen so far are all 80mph. Or are there combined 100mph speedos available as well?
Check for gauges from an econoline. They are the same as our trucks up until the early 90's. I'm not sure exactly what year they switched in the 90's though
I already learned that the econolines have the same instrument clusters and some other parts but the question is about the 100mph and 80mph speedometer. Just the speedo itself without the cluster arround it. Does a 80mph speedo work correctly if a 100mph was installed before and the other way arround?
yes, the speedometer differences between 85 and 100 mph gauges is internal to the speedometer so it is a direct swap (there are some physical difference like placement of the high-beam indicator...)
I have a 80mph and 100mph Gauge here and the're absolutely the same shape. Even the high beam indicator is on the same position. Are you sure the 80mph (with kph scale in addition) will not show correct speed if a 100mph was installed on my truck originally? I found one on ebay that goes to 160kph (shows kph only) but unfortunately high beam indicator is missing on that one.
Any ideas how to get a speedo Gauge with kph scale into my truck that works correctly?

Like dlburch said, the two speedometers will interchange and both will read correctly. If the high beam jewel is in the correct loacation, you won't have any problems.
Thanks for clarifying! Even thoug my english is reasonably good, I'm not familiar with all your (US English) figures of speech. I learned most of my english skills in Australia and you might know that there are quite a lot of different wordings / expressions...
I have just misinterpreted dlburch's expression "direct swap" and thought it means that exactly the same replacement Gauge is needed.
Great to know I can get rid of the ugly stickers by just swaping the Speedo Gauge. The instrument cluster is pulled apart because of not working inllumination lights and broken plastic housing at the moment. I'll put it back together with the mph/kph Speedo as soon as I have the new rear plastic housing.
Thanks for your effort!
Allright, I swapped the speedo by now and it seems to work. Just shows a bit less than it should. his is because of the large tires - right? Does it help to change the tooth wheel on speedo cable?
