Power Window Issue

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT with a power window issue. My passenger window doesn't go up but it will go down. My headlights don't dim when I press the up/down window passenger buttons on the driver side as well as up on the passenger side. The window will go up randomly as if nothing is wrong but I don't know what the issue is. I've checked the power distribution box and fuse box but didn't find any issues. All I can tell is that it's an electrical issue.

sounds like an bad window switch. When I installed PW's on my truck had one switch that didnt work so got a replacement and no issues since. You can pull the door panel and hook jumper wires to the motor lead and check to see that the motor is OK. just plug in and see which way it goes and then reverse for opposite action. If the motor works probably a bad switch or relay.

I have recently had problems with my power door locks and my window switch on the pass side does not work. Replacing/cleaning the switch is a place to start. On mine it was the actual wires and the terminal ends that the switch plugs into. I ended up going over each one with solder to fix the "bad" connection.

Not saying yours is doing the same thing. But its a possibility to consider down the road.

Just reread your post. Does it do the same thing (goes down, but not up) the same with switches on both sides?

Not both sides. Driver-side switch for passenger window doesn't function at all and for the passenger-side switch, only down functions. I'll try the "replace the switch" option first and see where it goes from there.

While thinking ( i know unusual) Check ground points as they could be the issue before going much further since the switches will work kinda sorta. Read someplace that a guy had probs and it was rtecommended that all grounds be cleaned 1st. Give it a try much cheaper than switches unless gotten from junk yard!

I've had issues before where the wires got broken where they exit the cab to go into the door. Every time the door opens and closes these wires get flexed.

Just something to look for.
