Power window - intermittent prob driver's side

I have a 1995 F-250 4x4 with extended cab. Earlier this year, there would be spells when the driver's side power window would not work. When it didn't work, there were no sounds. It was totally dead. When it did work, it worked perfectly and would go up and down as many times as I tried it, although the next time I used the truck it was likely to be inoperative again.

A while back, during a period when the window was NOT working, I pulled the switch and used my test light. The results seemed to be clear.

blue w/ blk stripe - power to switch
LH window down - white w/blk stripe HOT
LH window up - yellow HOT

Since that appeared to eliminate the switch, I bought a rebuilt motor at that point, but never installed it. (not looking forward to taking the door apart)

Since then there have been numerous occasions when the window would work if I played with the switch long enough and once it worked it would again continue to work as long as I needed it, being dead the next time I drove the truck.

But a difference that I have noticed very recently, is that while the window is going up, I detect three pulses or surges in the movement.

So earlier, the switch tested good while the window was inoperative and there was no sound or smell indicating a motor problem when it was working.

Recently, playing with switch causes window to work occasionally and when it does work, motor no longer operates smoothly.

Also, reading other threads and talking to dealer parts persons, I have conflicting opinions on whether the individual window switch can be replaced or whether I must buy the entire cluster of switches on the driver's side.

I have photos of the switch cluster installed and also pulled out from the door panel, but couldn't figure out how to include them.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Go to www.partsamerica.com and plug your year truck in and see if they carry the switch. I looked up one at that site for someone else a couple of days ago, and they had it.

It still could be the motor. The brushes can get sticky where they slide in the holders. So they can make contact, and then not make contact to the armature. You may also want to wiggle the wires around in the door jamb to see if that has any affect(loosing power through a intermittent broken wire).

Thanks.

Prior to posting, I did look up the part. They show a 49252 Motormite to fit my truck. The problem is that they do not show where it fits. This part would replace the two individual switches on the passenger's side, but there's nothing to indicate that it would work on the driver's side.

Will try to check the wiring.
