Looked at a 2005 today and all of the seat mounts and tracks and other metal parts inside the truck were rusty. Not just surface rust but pretty bad. What would cause this? Outside looked pretty good but the roof had been repainted. Underside of truck looked good too.
I have often head that this could be the sign that the vehicle was in a flood of some sort. May not be 100% the potential cause of the issue, but worth looking into.

Very possible. I've also seen vehicles with leaks around the windshield or even side window gaskets , etc. with really rusty interior parts. Once the carpet gets wet......
I would definitely beware if the parts have more than a little surface rust.
Surface rust is nothing, but severe rust is. Was it all the bolts or just the ones near the center of the vehicle? A lot of times the center ones get drinks (coke and coffee) spilled on them and the acids make them look horrible.
I should have taken more pics. It was pretty bad. It looked almost like some type of airborne oxidizer was in the truck. Under the dash there was rust on the bare metal parts. It didn't look like surface rust, more like pitting and bad. The search continues for the perfect ex.
most of the braces and such under the dash of mine are covered in rust, of course the whole carpet underpadding was wet for who knows how long as a result of the disconnected washer line on the passenger side as well, thats a lot of moisture that was held in there.
Could be a water leak (or windows left open) and the interior carpets got wet and didn't dry out... But, there is likely mildew now in places as well - NOT something I'd want to be inside of for hours at a time.
