On my 07 E350, some of the gauges do not work when the truck starts. They wait a bit after starting and then come on. Is this normal? I just got the truck and don't know about the newer vans. Also the radio stays on after I turn the truck off, even when taking the key out until I open the door. ???

Hi Bob,
My '97 Explorer radio did this, there's an "Accessory Delay" feature that is responsible. From the 2007 owner's manual:
Accessory delay With accessory delay, the window switches and radio may be used for up to ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position, or
until any door is opened
The gauges should immediately come to life when the engine starts. Does this happen when its colder outside or any other consistent ambient conditions?
Thanks for the replies.
Some work and the two on the left do not. The gas gauge and whatever the other one is. It is too early to remember. I just got the van and did not notice it before. It is probably a 10 or 15 second delay until they come on. The rest work right away. I will check the time delay when I start it this morning. It wasn't too cold out yesterday but was raining. It happened the day before too.
My 90 has a small voltage regulator behind the dash that went bad,but it affected all the gauges. Does this van have one?
Your gauge situation sounds like the cluster itself is having issues internally or one of the ground connections leading back to the chassis ground has failed or is failing intermittently. Perhaps as the van warms up or gentle vibrations come into play the failed connections "reconnect" and the gauges come back.
If some but not all of the gauges work then this more strongly suggests something internal to the cluster is the cause. Replacements can be found on eBay but they do need to be fuel and year specific.
The voltage regulator is internal to the alternator so that tends to not have any bearing on this.

Does your speedo and odo work?
Where are the grounds?
Does fuel specific mean fast versus diesel or tank capacity or?

Grounds would be found in the chassis wiring connectors that fit into the back of the cluster itself. Those would be best checked with the cluster removed. An EVTM or downloaded wiring diagram for the instrument cluster would be necessary to decipher the connectors and wire colors.
Fuel specific does refer to gasoline vs diesel----they are very different cluster assemblies.
Ok, I was wrong. It took about 15-18 seconds before the fuel, oil pressure and battery gauges come on. I did not notice the battery one on the right.
It probably means the temp gauge does not work either because it would not go up until warm.
