I recently took my E350 cutaway box truck on a 2400 mile round trip and when I got back, I noticed it's leaking fluid now... but this has me puzzled because it looks like it could be coming from about 4 or 5 different locations around the radiator and power steering pump.
This has the 6.8L v10 engine. The engine didn't leak from anywhere prior to the trip and I didn't notice anything peculiar on the way to or from the destination. This came as a total surprise when I went out the next morning (after it sat overnight) to find drips of fluid on my shop floor.
Has this ever happened to anybody else, or does anybody have any ideas what could have caused this?
I typically don't advocate high pressure washing of the engine areas but in this case it would be a good idea. Aiming just a bit higher than the steering box should reveal if anything in that area is leaking.
The lower hose sure looks to have been leaking or is leaking quite a bit in a short time----that needs addressed ASAP.
Hope this isn't anything too serious OR expensive!
So I'm assuming these lines are for the transmission cooler? Is it common for the lines to leak at these fittings? And is it common for them to be rubber, or are they supposed to be steel, and this was some hack-job by the previous owner?

My 97 E350 has rubber transmission cooler lines, it's normal I think. Can you tell from the leaking fluid if it's transmission oil or engine oil?

I couldn't tell from what was on the ground whether it was engine oil or tranny fluid because it was too dirty and contaminated but I'm starting to think that it's tranny fluid. On the way back from the last trip, I was over gross (I know, I know ) and the transmission kept going in and out of overdrive, even on flat terrain. I think I may have strained the system and the tranny oil got too hot. But I checked the fluid level and it didn't seem low and it didn't smell bad either.
I have a 1000 mile round trip coming up tomorrow night. I'm going to go over to the shop here in a bit and clean this all up with a rag and lay under there with it running and see if I can determine exactly where it's dripping from. Those hose clamps look pretty nasty. They may just need to be tightened up.
Come on deeplist. Come on! You just completed a 2400 mile trip with a vehicle that has a lot of miles on it (I can tell from the photos). A lot of those 2400 miles were high-speed interstate driving. Those factory rubber transmission lines look ancient. Oil pan gasket is leaking some, too. It's not unusual for a high mileage engine operating at interstate speed. Lots of pressure in the crankcase.
