VIN Number
I own a 2004 6 Liter, my question is, can you tell what HPOP is in the engine by the VIN #? I've read that Ford changed to the more durable one mid year 2004, "Round to Square" housing.

Ford modified the 2003 HPOP for the "mid 2004 engines" (probably around the end of September of 2003), but it is still the same basic (swash plate) design. The reliable V4 style piston pump HPOP (with the unreliable STC fitting and the aluminum cover) did not go into engines until the 2005 model year.

Did some nosing around and I came across this at Townsly Ford, " updated STC Fitting Kit 05-up only" , I don't see an upgrade for the early pumps. I looked on Ebay and found a kit for the earlier pumps. Being in Canada makes it a lot tougher to get a reasonable price on parts, so I just want to make sure of what Im ordering.

Your truck doesn't have that STC fitting. If the ICP sensor is on the passenger side valve cover it's an 04 motor but it still has the "03/04" style HPOP. The only upgrade that I know of for our HPOP is from Dieselsite.

Yeah the ICP sensor is on the right cover, so we have to purchase a complete pump? I'm not having any problems as of yet, just the mileage is getting up there and I don't wanna be stranded someplace. Any reviews on their product?
