VIN help

A friend of mine purchased a Ford Truck cab from a salvage yard recently to use on a rat rod he's building. When he bought it the guy said he wasn't sure of the model year but it was somewhere around a '50 model give or take a year or 2. He found a removeable plate on it that we believe to be the VIN plate but we can't decode what we have. Dealer said they can't because it's too old. The number is *98RC*427928*LOU. Can anybody out there help us? If this is not the VIN code what is it?

That number is consistent with a very late 1950 actually.

I believe the late 40's more than late 50's. Only difference I see between this cab and a 1950 is the dash.

What's different about the dash on your friend's truck than on a 1950? Do you have a picture? I'm curious now.

Trust me. The people here study these trucks every day. It's a 1950. And there is no difference between a 1949 and 1950 dash.

I didn't want to say the same. Just thought I'd give the OP a chance.

Sorry. I knew what you were doing. Didn't mean to sound blunt. I think the OP misunderstood me when I said "late 1950". I meant that particular year, not the decade.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.
