Hello, The wire that goes from the fuse box inside the cab to the slave starter solenoid doesn't produce power when turning the key to the start position and fuse is fine. Does anyone know of a fusible link in the wire harness somewhere? I would like to fix it to remove the jumper wire my mechanic installed...
Can you give us more detail. I'm no expert but just trying to understand what you have going on? A wire installed from where to where? Do you have a second solenoid hooked up? More in-depth detail please.
I can try to add some detail. There is no additional solenoid. The signal goes through the Ignition switch then through fuse box. From the fuse box to the signal input on the solenoid on the inner passenger side fender. Problem is, the signal doesn't make it. There must be a break in the wire somewhere in the harness, behind fuse box or there is a fusible link I cannot find... Currently we have installed a fuse tap, connected a jumper wire from the fuse box tap to the solenoid.
If your truck is a 99-01 the 12V crank signal from the fuse box (fuse 20, 15A) goes through a neutral safety switch (automatic) or a clutch pedal switch (manual) before going to the starter solenoid on the fender. Perhaps that is where you are losing it. I don't see any fusible links on the wiring diagram.
Does your shifter handle seem loose? If so then even if you think your in park you may not be making the neutral switch. Will it crank if you move it to neutral and or wiggle the shift lever? Manual or auto tranny?
