with the doghouse off i started the car last night and saw sparks. the wire that goes from the solenoid to the starter was loose on the solenoid side and the insulation melted.
i'm assuming that just taping up the wire and calling it a day is a bad idea??
if i drop the starter (which i'm not excited about) will there be a way of replacing that wire?
i'm assuming it melted because the wire was loose and something arched. is there anything else i should look out for?
ends up the stud that holds the wire between the solenoid and the starter is slightly stripped, so its hard to actually get the wire tight. a new solenoid costs $20 at napa so i'll probably get one cause looks like i don't need ot pull the starter to put it on? but that still doesn't solve the problem of the burned wire.
i can't actually see where it attaches to the starter but it feels like there is no way of pulling it off. anyone have any last minute thoughts? tape it and cross my fingers? drive it till it really breaks? replace the whole starter? hardly burned no big deal?
i can't figure otu how to put a picture in my post (i'm even worse with computers than i am with cars) but i put the picture in CL and you can see the burned wire there. also notice some solder or something under that stud (not sure if thats normal until i get the new solenoid to compare it to).

I think, if it was me, I would replace the starter relay and the wire from it to the starter. Not that big a deal dropping the starter to get at the wire.
Should be good then for winter starts.
