How much are you willing to spend? New kits are available... i think around $3000. Used kits are usually under $1000

If you have the choice, look for a Banks 'Wastegated' kit. As far as I'm concerned, these are the best kit out there; nice turbo which produces more low-end boost, and you can disconnect the wastegate once you get headstuds for more top-end boost.
Also, a lot easier to install/remove than others.

Why in the blazes would you downgrade your truck?

What next, hand-crank starter?

yeah well you may have to be patient. it may take some looking and waiting to find a used kit. I looked for quite a while on craigslist before I found mine. I love it tho. definitely worth the wait.

A lot. Especially for a shop install.
Kit wise, I'd look for a Banks Sidewinder Wastegated one if you can. The kit can be installed with the engine in the truck, and with only a day or so of cursing(:P).
Really, get yourself some tools -- $50 worth of Harbor Freight wrenches and sockets should do the trick; you'll also need a sawzall for whacking the old exhaust out(You can cut it back behind the Y, so you can join it together again if you ever want to), whacking the 'ear' off the transmission if it's a ZF-5, and 'notching' the firewall->cab floor seam(see the Banks install guide for details).
I'd be thinking about $600 for the kit; if you look on Craigslist for '7.3 turbo' or 'banks turbo' you might be able to find one -- all you're looking for is making sure the kit is intact(see the install guide) and go from there.
Oh, and if you are doing this outside on the curb, get a piece of plywood to lay on.
