I was pretty sure we were going to lose everything. And so were all my neighbors. Nearly took out about 40 homes. Lost only 1, and it was devastating to see those people lose their house, cars, barn, everything.
They saved the 2 dogs and 3 horses was all.
I'm very fortunate....have never been that close to a wildfire, and never want to be.
Back when I was working on the ranch in the '80s and 90's we did some controlled burns for sagebrush and junipers. That fire had a lot of power, and gave me a healthy respect for it.
We finally got a little rain last night and this morning....didn't do much more than settle the dust, but it was good to get it. Most of the fires around here are under control now...this will help though.
Evening Ford Fans', today was a craptastic day at work.

Pat I am on the North Oregon Coast this area is rain forest usually 100" or more of rain but we have been a dry tender box this year. Fort Stevens State Park had a 27 acre fire this summer. Eastern Oregon is a desert less the ten inches of rain that side has burned ( some Hugh Fires ) Canyon Creek near John Day 110422 acres 90 percent contained.

Chris, its just weird, how you guys are in a drought, and we've had plenty of rain this summer. I know the whole west coast is dry as a bone. you guys need a nice, wet winter.
Morning Ian! Chris, it's just crazy how one part of the country can get a lot of rain, and another not get any. We had plenty of rain in August. Weird how the weather works that way.

Pat last winter the east side of Canada got buried in huge snowfall after huge snowfall.
At my house in the west the entire accumulation for the entire winter, was less than an inch. We usually get 6 to 10 inches over the whole winter.
The whole west barely got snow.
The skill hill about an hour away had to make snow all winter.
Never did open all its runs even doing that.
To top it off had a very short season.
Then all summer we had raging wild fires and barely a drop of rain.
The river that flows behind my house is at the lowest it has been since 1962. So long before I was even born.
