I just ate another set of bearings due to mud getting past the inner bearing seal to easily. There is a groove where the seal rides, which I am learning is a common issue. I heard a possible alternative to a new $200 spindle is installing a sleeve.
Has anyone ever done this? Is a special seal needed?
Thanks.
Also, I highly recomend these seals for your next axle rebuild, I dont think I will ever need to do inner seals again. The axle shafts were clean! Seals It Economy Axle Seal EAS2 5 | eBay
Would it be the same seal for front and rear D60? same for GM and dodge?
I think this may be it:

That is the best price I can find. Not cheap for what seems to be a temporary fix. If I mess one up I may as well have bought a new spindle.
Any thoughts on these, price seems to good to be true:

Maybe $140 plus $20 for new studs and nuts (which it truthfully needs anyways ) Would be worth it.
That I don't know. I just know they are available when I read through everything on the inspection criteria for spindles and bearings. Better than buying new spindles... Gotta be.
I would be leery of anything other than OEM spindles. Maybe some aftermarket are just as good, or even better but that's not the way to bet. The one link you provided is a crankshaft seal.
Hey thanks for the link. I was thinking the same thing about those spindles, there is a reason why the Spicer ones are $200 and those are $73. I will do some more research on exactly what speedy seal I need.
Also, do you know about spindle stud nuts? Mine all thread on correctly, but a couple were pretty rounded off on the outside. I think these are supposed to be the slightly oval shaped nuts that self lock (and therefore a one time use in an application like this). Mine are probably original!
Not sure if that is the right size, very hard part to search for as I keep getting the actual spindle nut specs. Found it as spicer part 36880, but that turns up nothing. Parts mike has the complete stud set, but I dont need that.
Do they even sell grade 8 locking nuts at home depot, etc? Going there today anyways so ill check.
I wouldn't be buying critical fasteners at Home Depot, they might be fine for their intended use. It's tough enough to get quality parts even when they are supposedly designed for it. Get a parts manual and ID what you need and make sure you order the right parts from the right people.
are you pullin your hubs apart after mudding each time and re greesing them? thats the only way to make them last.
No I did not this time, but I am not daily driving it any more either (Its actually in a Jeep Cherokee). I used to pull them apart once a year and they would be ok. This failed completely and catastrophically way too fast.
They are made in India, but pat said they have had very good luck with them and they are well made. The spicers are $260 EACH so yeah.
Ordered these to replace my spindle stud nuts. I feel like such an idiot now for reusing the old ones. Not that they had anything to do with the failure, but they should be replaced every time.
