I know one I encountered was the headlight switch. I didnt have any interior lights so I went and got one from the junkyard. Stilll didnt have and interior lights so I got another Headlight switch. After hours and hours of tracing electrical problems I went and bought a headlight switch from the factory switch. It works now, after pulling two bad switches from other Bronco II's

The 2.9 L engine in the later models likes to crack heads if overheated.
TFI ignition module likes to cut out.
Later models had a CV-style (not double cardon, rezeppa style CV-joints) rear driveshaft that, while functional, is expensive to fix when the joints wear out.
Some of the transmissions used don't have a good reputation (A4LD, FM146)
Radius arm bushings.
Electronic 4x4 shift motors get dirty and won't shift the t-case.

As for the TFI, I'm going to switch mine with the 2.8 V-6 over to the earlier DuraSpark ignition once I figure out how to get the A4LD torque convertor clutch to kick in and out automatically without the EEC-IV computer no longer running things.

The TFI ignition module is the module on the distributor that controls the spark. It wouldn't hurt to carry a spare, they run about $35 on up. If you get one, you might try putting the new one on, just for the experience. So you know if you can do it with the distributor on, many require a special tool to get off, but it isn't expensive. That sort of thing.

Does it have to be "automatic?" It would be real easy if you were willing to let the "computer" between your ears decide when to throw the switch. All you need to have then is a switch to throw.
