Figured I would say hello , and post a few pics of the truck I've been trying to bring back to life. I end up here often for advise! The Truck has sat for many years so the fuel tank, brakes, tires, radiator...... all need work! Found that the rear axle is from a "newer" truck. It also has some sort of Mexican vin plate in it.
Welcome. The Y in the VIN says it's a one ton, but the Dana 41 axle and wheels/hub caps look half ton. And the 699 code must be unique to the country of origin. Mexico or maybe Brazil? How did it find its way to Michigan? I agree that the wheelbase will tell us the truth about which it is. Stu
Good question on the wheelbase, had to go measure it. Came in at 114.
Someone along the way must have installed that rear axle. they did kind of a sloppy job with the old brackets and brake lines. Someone did some creative work on the grille at some point also.
The story I got was it came from New Mexico or Arizona as some kind of Parks and Rec truck originally. I guess it came up here in the early 90's.
So far the tank has been cleaned and lined. And I had to mess with the fuel pump. It was cranking out 15psi and fuel was blowing through the carb. Now it runs on its own. Drive-line stuff next.
Thanks for the info. I'm still learning about these older trucks.
And we're learning from your photographs that you've come up with an amazing, although not entirely original survivor. I'm thinking the cab came off a tonner at some point. It sure has a nice look to it just how it is. Looks like you are missing some grille bars. The wide one in the center, the two wide ones flanking it, which were relaced with narrow ones, and the two narrow ones at the outer ends on both sides. Next time you are out there with your camera peel back the floor mats and get us a pic of the floors. Sort of like ****.....
That's all really interesting. The 699Y indicates a US built '46 V8 powered Tonner, but the truck has the 114" ½ ton wheelbase, the half ton caps and wheels, and what appears to be ½ ton bed, but the front fender look to be the Tonner front fenders with the higher wheel arch opening. The truck must have such and interesting history in its almost 69 years.

Please take me to school. You found the 699 U.S. code where I didn't. I looked in the Green Bible and 1946 Truck Sales Handbook. I found 69Y-xx (81-86 depending on configuration) for the donor tonner cab. What does that extra 9 designate? Thx. Stu
Edit - I found it. Catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers 1946-1972.
This will probably throw a wrench into things, but here's some more pics. I tried to get the vin on the frame, the fenders and box, plus a quick floor shot.

Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks / krause.com / ISBN: 0-87349-411-3 only has US info, says: 699Y = 1946 1 ton / 799Y = 1947 1 ton.

Now you get to crawl under it to find where they shortened the frame.

So this info also pertains to Hecho en Mexico.
Yeah, Bill, I figured out the number was right, but now we have a wheel base conflict to sort out. Stu
