I'm in the middle of digging an '83 6.9 out of a caved in barn, and seeing as I hate my car, AND it just so happens the transmission needs rebuilding, I thought I'd put the money into something a little more fun and sentimental.
I'll be honest, I've never rebuilt an engine, and this one has over 600k miles. Definitely blown head gaskets, but my dad said to just overhaul it...
Been looking around at these forums and I'm already interested in this camshaft from Type4
about me... I'm only 19, just left the Navy (medical stuff), and I'm in college. so unfortunately it might take me a while to really get this truck where I want it. But I've got good friends to help me out.
Also... I'm pretty new to the whole forum thing... so if anyone has a problem with my etiquette, sorry. lol i know it can be important sometimes. just PM me and let me know
Relax. ..good bunch here, the problem you may have...if the gaskets are blown and the engine has been sitting for any length of time with water atop the piston is rust and pitting, sure it can be bored and sleeved to correct that but the 83 blocks also had the tendancy to crack at the block heater, you might be better off finding another short block
You should be able to pick up a used running engine for $500-1000. I bought a running93 2wd truck with a bad trans for $900. If you want to do it on a budget thats something to think about. There will be other areas on the truck that will need attention (and $$$).
Welcome I might suggest you read those threads that say read first. Iwas able to find the troubleshooting for my glow plug problem and the will not run below 1/4 tank problem
