The neutral safety switch is on the transmission (auto - I don't know about manual). I had a no-start at a hotel check-in far from home. I found a loose connector on the transmission after some work was done to it a few weeks before (shop). I cleaned and re-seated the connector while stuck in front of the hotel check-in entrance, then I never had a problem with the neutral safety switch again in 60K miles and a gajillion starts.

Wildcard... Is your shift lever sloppy? Maybe the two torx bolts under the steering column for the shift lever has worked loose.

Disconnect it and jump it to the battery. If it turns over, then you know the starter is good. This test takes the computer and most electronics out of the equation.

The relays under the dash click, and one could be bad. Swap in the defroster relay with the starter relay to test.

Hook the truck up to a good sized running car, after a few minutes and the jump car in fast idle, try and jump off your truck.

Your issue is either:

Bad relay
Bad battery
Bad starter

I had the trifecta happen a week after buying my 2002 excursion. Had to replace it all! Good news is I was able to test it all out and got the truck running.

Good luck!

Is this the yellow wire you mean?
Its got other colours on it also?
Plus its got a real funny connector I didn't want to break?

Yes that's the wire! That connector comes a part easy by just squeezing it at the joint.

Tim Horton... Canada's answer to Starbucks.

Reading this again... I might have missed it, but I don't see any mention of battery cables on the other end from the batteries.

isnt it a computer feature, not just for our trucks but all vehicles, that, once it "senses" low voltage, it'll cut out unnecassary items..."lower" headlights, no radio, no interior lights..etc?

Cables to the starter I reached up and wiggled they aren't loose but I didn't clean them.

On the manual it's called the CPP (clutch pedal position) switch. It's located on the the rod that connects the clutch pedal to the hydraulic master cylinder up under the dash.

Jesser I took it apart and used a good sized jumper wire.
Wasn't sure which wire (after took apart) so I tried both.
One way it didn't do anything and the other way it sparked when I touched the + on battery?

The side that goes down, to the starter, should have caused your motor to turn over as it would have engaged the starter. In your photo, it would be the lower half of the connection covered in wireloom.

That is what gets 12v to engage the starter solenoid. When you jumped that wire, and the starter didn't engage, that tells me you have a starter issue.

Now which side sparked? Seeing as you applied voltage upstream, you might have blown a relay.

Some simple wire tracing would help ensure you don't jump upstream.

It sparked on the down side going to the starter.

If it sparked when you jumped the down wire, I'd bet you have a failure at the starter solenoid. Make sure all connections are tight, and if it still doesn't work, you need to have the starter tested. If needed, I can text you a video of the test.

Don't you just love this site.
The jumper wire is the way I would have gone.

If all you got was sparks and no engagement of the starter, remove the starter and have it checked/rebuilt/replaced.

(Does not explain the radio playing/not playing though.)
