PATS 1:1 a code?

So is it normal for the fast blink to turn to a slow blink if the key is left in the run position? Should we look elsewhere for the problem?
This is actually my son's girlfriends rig; his internet is currently down, and he's not a member (yet).
OH, and he's 4.5 hours away, or I'd be tackling it "hands on"

No, that flash pattern just means that the system timed out after the failure-to-authorize and has returned to normal PATS standby mode.
You will need to do one of the following:
Get an advanced scan tool and scan the system for fault codes. Once you have them, you can determine what the system is complaining about.
Guess.
Tow it to a dealer and let them diagnose and repair it.
The only thing remotely DIY in the PATS system is to replace the transponder (antenna) ring around the key cylinder. Everything else takes specialty equipment and knowledge/training.
