Ooh la la!! You might see if you can find David Vizard's comments on a Chev 292 six that he set up with three SU carbs; said it "pulled like a steam engine from idle to WOT." Of course, not many of us have his tuning skills, or a dyno.

I have a DP on my '81 and a C on my '84. The C certainly doesn't leave anything to be desired, but I can definitely feel the extra torque on the DP. The DP certainly doesn't lack for anything either. Granted, my engine isn't exactly built.

In the paperwork that I got that came with my DP, it says that the recommended carbs are:

Holley 8007 390cfm or R6299 390cfm (with modifications).
Carter 9400 400cfm
Holley 1848 465cfm.

The C was on the engine when I got it so I have no idea what it recommends.

It does have an application chart and says that the C is for:
Street & Strip with 3/4 - full race cam. 7000 RPM max
Use 500cfm
Max torque ~2500 RPM

Strip Race - full race cam. 8000 RPM max.
600cfm
Max torque ~3000 RPM

Oddly, the DP isn't listed on their application chart.

My 89 E350 is getting 2 Autolite 2100 1.02 2V's and my 54 F100 4x4 is getting 3 Autolite 2100 1.02 2V's.

Trozei, print that info for Bronco; we all want to hear about him getting a 300/six up to 8000 rpm.

The Carter AFB 9400, 9410, etc., are not plentiful and somewhat hard to come by at least they were when I was shopping for one.

That looks like the same paperwork that came with my DP. I'm kind of confused by the numbers they give since it looks as if the "lowest RPM for max working horsepower" is almost always lower than the "lowest RPM max torque starts". Just seems strange that the horsepower would come in before the torque.
Also, which is the DP?

There was an extra sheet (about a 4 x 6 card) that says the recommended carbs and the modifications necessary for Holley's "other" 390cfm carb. I can't remember the model number (can't buy it new) but it was pretty extensive. Drilling of PV holes, clipping the secondary spring shorter, changes to the linkage, etc.

Yeah, I took a look for a Carter 9400 just out of curiosity the other day after I dug up the card. There's a few on Ebay, but they're not super cheap. I'm curious why Edelbrock doesn't replicate it. A 400cfm would open a new market to them.

Yeah, no thanks! Even if I built it up, I don't think I'd ever want to spin it that high. Most I've ever done is about 3000 shy of that, and that was on accident while I was in low range/granny gear.

"I'm curious why Edelbrock doesn't replicate it."

I suspect that Edelbrock found there just wasn't enough of a market for them to begin with.

Possibly.

Seems that if it's already designed, the work is done.
Holley sees enough market to keep the 390cfm around, so who knows. *shrug*

Eh, just curious.
