Hey there, newbie here I bought a 2011 f250 cc xlt with 6.2, with 62xxx miles.thought this would be best place to start.love the truck killer front end problem I'm having is truck bounces over stupid little bumps.3 to 4 repedelty fast bounces over bumps,I replaced shocks with bilstiens 5100,still does it tires are ok about 20% tread left. Checked sprins, leafs all is good.doesent have rear sway bar don't think that matters? Any advise would be appreciated thanks
Check tire balance, wheel bearing play and chassis parts, ball joints, steering linkage etc...Pull the steering stabilizer and see if its lost its pressure. Replace as needed.
Sorry guys when I said killer front end I ment the grill,it looks awesome that's what sold me on the truck.truck drives straight as arrow no wondering just perfect, and no death wobble.over certain bumps it bounces 5 short gut renching bounces, then on new paved roads it ell start to bounce.and on reall crapy roads it's fine , does not have rear sway, would that help?noticed when dropped tail gate down hard bed would bounce.replaced shocks to bilstiens 5100 are those right shocks for no lift?thinking of changing to Monroe reflex or sensitrac.
I know something not right if all 250s rode like mine they would all be sitting on the dealership lots,so if anyone has come across this & has fixed problem please tell me!! I really like the truck but if this is how it's going to be for the next 4 to 5 years I'll problely get rid of it.any suggestions would greatly be appreciated
my 05 with 18" rims ran bouncey the time I owned it. tried everything to now avail. eventually traded it in for a 2008 with 17" rims and was happy with the new smooth ride.
if you are going to guess shocks, I'd try some sensatracs if you can find them, or some Gas Magnums. both seem to get pretty good reviews for economy shocks.
I've got the sensatracs on my old brickside chebby plow truck and they ride really nice. not what I'd call a HD shock, per se, but nice ride.
I don't think a rear sway bar will help anything ride-wise.
Caster is one element of alignment. It still can drive perfectly straight even though it may not have enough positive caster to completely eliminate bounce when you drive over bumps. There is an aftermarket caster kit that can add positive caster adjustment that are installed on the lower bushing of the radius arms. It's a cam and eccentric that swings the lower ball joint angle toward the front of the vehicle that helps with bounce and the "death wobble" that this suspension design can develop. If you've added a leveling kit caster could be changed enough to induce the bounce you're complaining about.
I put 5100 on my 2008 F250 FX4 CC 8 foot bed and that helped but didn't take it away... Also proper air pressure helped. I have to 20 inch rims and sidewall says 80 psi. When I checked the tires they were at 32 psi... brought pressure up to 70 psi and ride is tighter and smoother. HOWEVER, I still get the bounce just not as heavy. I am getting a on and off front end vibration between 76 and 82 mph. Had the wheels balanced and it helped a little. I am left to assume the balancing was done poorly and may be still off a bit... don't know.. don't wanna spend money on balancing again... Had a friend that owned a tire shop but he sold it. I am still looking for an answer. Gonna wait till spring to start messing with it...
Find a good HD truck shop and have them take a look. Something might be up with the tires like a hop or bad belt or a bent rim, or a balance issue. Start simple. The truck shop should be able to provide you with the right answers.
I just put a new set of 285 BFGs on mine. Rode like sheet compared to the factory BFGs. They could not get the new tires to balance due to tire hop. Last ditch effort was going to be putting the balance beads in the tires. I didn't want that. After the 4th trip back they replace them with Cooper AXTs. DAY AND NIGHT. Smooth as glass at least for a 3/4 ton truck. The new BFGs created all sorts of drivability issues. It wandered when I hit a bump. I had to put a ton of steering wheel input in to keep it straight on highway. It had a vibration similar to a bad balance etc...The shops head wrench finally road tested it with me in it and said this isnt right. He felt it before I did. Once they changed them it was a completely different truck with the new tires. Needless to say I wasn't happy. But I am now with the Coopers. My local tire company stood by me and made it right.
