my drivers side door on my f-250 sometimes latches and sometimes doesn't can it be adjusted or would a good cleaning do it it doesn't look like the door sages at all. can the latch assembly be changed or what will interchange?
If the post doesn't push in far enough, it won't latch. The post can be adjusted. Can you get it to latch using a large screwdriver? You should be able to remove the latch and clean up.
This is a recommendation for WD40 or another spray lube, spray it in good and work the joints of the latch. Open & close it 25 times making sure you hear it click.
Then go out and do the same for the hood latch, making sure it is working (clicking), then go to the hood hinges.
You want both your door and hood to take a slow gentle close and hear it click knowing it is locked.
I'd take it out of the door and soak it in whatever cleaner you have. Old dried up grease or lubricants of some kind are prolly making it stick. Get it all nice and clean. Inspect to see everything moving freely. Then I'd lube it's insides down with white lithium spray grease. My preference.
