I have a 2001 F150 4X4 7700 Regular Cab/8 foot box with 68750 kilometers . I recently put Hercules 285/75R16E A/T Terra Trac II tires on my truck. The dealer only put 40 psi pressure on all 4 tires and they are rated for 80 psi, this seems a little low to me, should I at least raise them to 60 psi ??.
Yup, if you change tire size/type from OEM this is the best way to find out pretty accurately what PSI you should run your tires at.
You need to adjust for weight carried in the vehicle also, but this will get you very close, and close enough to be safe and have good tire wear.
