A huge amount of that is tax. The EU is very unfriendly to car owners.

All taxes are nearly 60 %. And therefore the most cars here have small engines and need less fuel. So you have 25-over 30 mpg.....

Do you think the price is as low as now because of your new methode, the fracking? Here in germany they told us this

From what I understand it's a combination of that and slacking global demand. Our consumption isn't as high as it was predicted, and high oil prices make alternative methods such as fracking profitable. OPEC saw the writing on the wall and sustained production to maintain their market share. I believe the days of that cartel controlling the oil market are over.

I lived in Frankfurt most of the 90's and gas prices were high back then. I thought the Autobahnen was kind of a tease, who could afford to drive fast at those gas prices! I had a hard time parking my Polo, can't imagine trying to park an F150 there.

It's a combination of things. The US fracking has proven successful and is booming at the exact same time as demand dropped considerably, and neither the US or the Saudis are going to slow down production even though both are losing money. Canada, however, has slowed down production significantly and that's how I and a few of my friends lost our jobs as roughnecks. Canada slowing down oil production is also why our dollar has gone down to its lowest point in a decade, which is a big inconvenience for me because I'm restoring a truck right now with mostly US parts so now I'm paying more than the already extortionate price I was paying.

And my USA vacation will cost more than 2 years ago. There I got $1.38 for 1 Euro. Now I get only $1.15. Only the low gasprice is good for me, because my motorhome runs only 8 mpg :-(
