From a low of $1.859 a few days ago its back up to $2.099 most places here in Columbus, OH.
While on a short trip to Cincy/N KY this past weekend it was also touching the $2.099 prices all along I-71 & I-75.
Sub zero temps the next few days might bump it further upwards but "normal" temps in the mid-30's might keep it at $2.099 or close.
You were real close to me. It's less than 30 minutes from my house to the T/A Truckstop at Exit 181. I do a lot of work there.
Anyhow, you mention N.Ky. Our gas prices are the highest in the state because of the formulation they are required to use. Go south to the next counties and they drop, especially if you're not near the interstates, most of the time. Last night the UDF in Wilder, KY had diesel for $2.94. That's the cheapest I've seen for a long time. (That station is next to I-275 and the AA Hwy, but there's 2 other stations in that area too)
this is interesting to compare these prices to 20 years ago guys.
the cost of a gallon of gas 20 years ago in 1995 was $1.15
source: 1990s Flashback-Economy / Prices****
(i looked at a few sites, and it appears to vary just a few cents.)
according to this inflation calc CPI Inflation Calculator
(it doesn't go to 2015 yet)
$1.15 in 1995 would have the same buying power as $1.78 today.
so fuel prices are back on par to where they're supposed to be finally, compared to 20 years ago.the prices got so out of hand that we all got used to taking up the shaft so hard, that just getting back to something practical feels cheap again lmao!
ok so i don't care for what its doing to the current market in terms of my IRA but they'll adjust things as needed and meanwhile i'll save at the pump.......provided it doesn't go nuts by spring when i start buying it again lol.
oh.for those who manage credit wisely.the 5% cash back on gas calendar months for discover is right now jan-march (i know it sucks for me.iv got the card but i don't work hardly the first quarter. )
chase freedom offers it's 5% back on gas is july-sep this year.
(iv got this card too thankfully.)
though keep in mind, rewards cards have high interest rates.never carry a balance or they wont be worthwhile.
last year, their rewards calendars matched.that sucked.it's nice to see them staggered this year.
anyway,if you manage credit well enough to be approved for these cards, then your probably wise enough to manage them correctly and earn the 5% back without paying fees in late payments or even carrying a balance.
there are a couple other 5% gas rewards cards out there.each from credit unions iirc but they're a bit more tricky to get a hold of.
penfed ultimate cash rewards and fort knox visa plat.
i'll work at getting one of these myself as well.the nice thing about these 2 is that their unlimited.unlike the 2 above iv got that are capped at 1500 for their quarters and they're year round active for the 5%.
i hope this post doesn't sound like a credit card ad lmao! just sharing gas saving tips.every bit helps!
If you're a SAMs Club member their credit card has 5% cash back on gas purchases. No time limit, it applies to the first $6,000 in fuel purchases each year. It doesn't apply to competitor wholesale club gas stations.
interesting.i didn't know about this one.ok a few little drawbacks i see with it.you've got a $45 annual membership fee to maintain, you need to keep membership in good standing, you only earn rewards once annually in the form a snail mailed check that can only be cashed in their store and it expires in 180 days.
ok so nothing too drastic.not as nice as earning rewards as you go and easily used at amazon checkout as a option (discover) or simply have it applied to the account as credit but, you've got unlimited 5% yr round at what looks like any us gas station not just sams.i'll look into this one some more.thanks for sharing.
ok so a little more in the fine print;
" Sam’s Club reserves the right to amend, cancel or temporarily suspend the Cash Rewards Program, in whole or in part, or change any of the Terms and Conditions at any time for any or no reason, including without limitation, in the event of fraud, abuse of Program privileges or violations of Terms and Conditions, as determined in Sam’s Club’s sole discretion without notice to the Member and which may result in the forfeiture of Cash Rewards not yet redeemed.
These terms and conditions are subject to change without notice. "
^ so pretty much the same disclaimer as the rest of them i suppose in their fine print.however when talking about annual check only this could really suck for those who built up some serious coin in cash back coming to them, only to risk being wiped away and null if they cancel the rewards program on ya........ouch.
ok another thing you've got be mindful of:
The percentage rate of Cash Back rewards earned on an Eligible Purchase (the “Category Percentage”) is determined by the merchant category code (“MCC”) associated with the Eligible Purchase. An MCC is a four-digit classification code that is assigned to a merchant by the merchant’s payment card network or merchant processor based on the predominant business activity of the merchant. The merchant’s MCC will determine whether a particular Eligible Purchase qualifies for the higher Category Percentages earned for “Gas Stations”, “Restaurants” or “Travel” as described above. For example, a purchase of fuel made at the fuel station area of a grocery store may have an MCC identification as a type of Merchant other than a gas station, and would therefore not qualify for the Gas Station Category Percentage. Neither Sam’s Club nor GE Capital Retail Bank (“Bank”) assigns or has responsibility for the assignment of MCCs, or evaluates what MCC should be assigned to a particular merchant. Bank reserves the right to determine from time to time which MCCs qualify for particular Category Percentages.
^again, nothing out of the ordinary here either.....however unlike a rewards card where you earn and can sign in and watch your rewards grow (or use) you'll need to make sure where your fueling up is counting like you can easily with the IT and freedom cards.
if sams lets you sign in and manage your account online as nicely as the others with a rewards monitor station screen then your all set.if your left in the dark to find out until you receive your annual check that would suck too if you then find out,the place you always used to fuel up wasn't counting all along towards your rewards.
yeah i don't think this ones for me personally.a bit too risky and too inconvenient to my liking.not that im thrilled with the quarterly calendar setup of the others either, but when they do offer the gas rewards it's a whole other level above what sams is offering here.
Good news, but remember price drops are only temporary. There will be more fuel price spikes and more Recessions so spend the time between them preparing for hard times.
KSA are pumping like mad but they could change overnight.
