I realize when it comes to ebay no name companies it's get what you pay for. I've noticed that there are 2 different companies advertising intercooler kits for our OBS trucks. They are both considerably cheaper than the Banks kit. Has anyone bought one of these kits? The pictures look legit but we all know how that goes. Anyway. Just checking to see if there's info out there. I've been trying to piece a kit together and it's proving to be a bit more than I want to chew off right now.
I agree, the pictures look good and I also agree with you that you never know. I guess I'm no help. On my 96 I went with a 99 intercooler and pipes but had to mod the pipes to fit. On my 97 I got Irate's kit but its for a T4 s366 turbo setup.
I have seen others installs of the CX kit. Seems OK from what I have read iirc.
I have a 6.0 ic that I got from glenn^^ lol but it isn't plumbed yet :-(
It will get abused soon enough :-)
I installed one of those kits on my '97. Instructions were almost useless, but I got it to fit nicely after some trial n error, and it works well. I installed bigger injectors, HPOP, WWII and had my DP tuner retuned at the same time so I can't tell you how much it lowered EGTs. It keeps it cool for the most part even with a huge bumper blocking airflow but I also run water injection for the long heavy pulls just to be safe. I like the design where it splits to the intake...nice mandrel bends and good welds too.
I plan on getting one for my other truck in the future.
I've been busy with getting the basic fundamentals sorted out on my 7.3L and haven't even started thinking about things like intercoolers. I notice that the link to the "No-Name" intercooler in Vibrant 93's initial post in this thread is for an intercooler that costs about $2,000.
On the same ebay page there's a link to a Banks intercooler kit for about $1,500. I thought the no-name kits were supposed to be cheaper than Banks? I know Banks has their detractors but they are at least a known quantity. Being in the dark on intercoolers I may be missing something?
I wouldn't have a problem with paying a $500 premium if I knew what I was getting had $500 of extra value and maybe this kit is worth the extra cost.

With your new IC pipes, where did you mount your water injector nozzle? What brand did you go with, I'm running coolingmist.

Bob
Prices have doubled since I got mine last year. I paid under $1000 delivered.
I run Devils own and I drilled/tapped the tubes right after they split/before they go to the intake.
I was reading on Devils own to put it in the IC pipe inbetween the IC and the Y so it has time to fully mix with the air. Mine is just before the Y and I'll be darn if I can get it to stop leaking! position number 3?
Guess my other truck will get a 'build it myself' or Banks now.
Since it's your second truck and evidently not a daily driver workhorse, building it yourself might be the way to go, especially if you have the shop and tools. And you already have an intercooler equipped truck to base your design on. Would be an interesting project.

I ran two nozzles, one on each leg, prior to the intercooler install. When I installed the cooler, I just put them in a similar location so I maintained the same characteristics and that the velocity would be greater there. Now I wish I would have seen that it would have been more efficient closer to the IC as I would have done that. Live n learn I guess, lol!
The aluminum tubes are actually thicker than I expected and I haven't had any issues with the nozzles leaking, other than the o-rings look to be drying out. I'll probably look into finding some better ones soon.
I missed a good deal on a complete e99 setup, then I was having a hard time locating a good IC at a decent price. I came down to the wire on some other plans, so I bit the bullet and figured I'd give this kit a try. I'm satisfied other than it was more than I'd have liked to have spent on it, but like I said earlier, it was under $1000 delivered and it worked out nicely.
