Once we're past the heater core we can work on the other things---I'll have to re-read this entire thread to refresh myself on what those are.
Agreeing with others about those quick connect fittings----use whatever keeps 'em from leaking. Only because messing with them isn't a common thing is why I chose too keep them---otherwise standard hose clamps are the way to go.

I'll make new threads for the other problems. I think I already made one about the short, but haven't had time to look at it. Ahhh, the good old days when it seemed like a little short was the worst of my problems, LOL!
Man, just can't catch a freakin' break! Today was just another kick in the *****. My daily driver needs two rear tires - belts are showing, so I went to the shop and got them ordered this morning so they'd be here in the afternoon. In the meantime, I went to the local shop to have the van looked at. They put me off for yet another week, despite telling me to come in today! Went back to the tire shop after the tires arrived, hoping to get the daily driver back on the road, only to find out one of my rims is cracked. Called the local wheel repair gurus and they don't want to touch it. Not sure what I did to deserve all this I used to have such good vehicle karma.
Did I mention that I tried the chemical spray test for the vacuum leak and got no increased idle result? Bought a new fuel filter which I'll try to put in tomorrow...doubt that's the problem but it probably needs to be done anyway. PCV is okay...just trying the next cheapest thing. God forbid if it's the fuel pump or a manifold gasket. I hate to just have to sell both vehi...
Dude some days or weeks are like this----not much consolation but most of us have been there, done this----more times than we like or bargain for---it sucks big time.
Keep in mind bad things happen to good people even if their Karma bank is balanced or even over flowing on the good side. If you're anywhere in the mid west or points east of Ohio this weather makes driveway DIY van repairs pretty much impossible. What I wouldn't give for a semi-heated indoor space to dig into my POS Volvo beater car. Can't work on it outside with 3-6" of snow, ice or rain supposed to hit this weekend.
Hang in there---it gets better---sooner or later anyway.
The good: took it to a shop right down the street. Turns out the vacuum leak was caused by a crack in the throttle body spacer. Part # CM5113 which Ford doesn't make anymore?? Anyway they JB Welded it - pictured below. Hope it holds. The part can be found but it's in the $300 range.
The bad: picked up a grinding sound from the right front brake last night. Since it's pouring rain here and this is my only way to get to work on Sunday, unless my new car wheel arrives in time, I gotta get it in to a shop again tomorrow and see what's up. Hopefully I don't need a rotor.
You find just one more problem with this thing and I'm gonna buy my own damned air fare out there to get it straightened out for you---might even bring Wildman too and tag team this perpetual problem beast!

Yeah, it's getting ridiculous. I'm currently in the waiting room of my tire & brake place waiting for them to inspect the brakes. Good news though - when I got here I saw that the wheel for my car had arrived. So, gonna see if I can get the van brakes sorted and then come back and get my car tires put on. If I'm lucky (ha!) I'll have two running vehicles by the end of the day. Fingers crossed.
edit: new calipers, pads and rotors. $800
edit #2: Yay! Another potential kick in the ***** - you gotta be kidding me! The CEL came on in the car today while driving home on the new tires and wheel. Haven't had a chance to check for codes. My code reader lives in the van which was still at the shop for the brake job. Not sure which vehicle to attempt to drive to work tomorrow.
Good gravy----in another life you must have really pissed someone off?!?!
I'd make your code scanner a new key fob---carry with you everywhere.
Not kicking a man when he's down but Dude if it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all. Wish I could do more than post here to help you with these issues.
Now just watch---someone will chime in with an OBD-II dongle that works with an iPhone app.
That made me LOL. I need to get one of those ASAP for real.
Van brakes are good to go so that's good news. Still need to bed them in properly.
Put a new battery in the BMW today. Was hoping the CEL was for 'increased battery discharge'. Nope. Tried clearing the code and it comes right back up....as a "C2500"?? That's not a normal code; that's a pickup truck. WTF? I wonder if it's some issue related to the new rear tires, ABS issue, etc. Who knows? So much fun Oh well, not a BMW forum here.
Next step is to get back to the blend door replacement. At this point, I can only laugh that I started this thread on 12/08/2014 and still have no heat. Van will go back to the shop that fixed the vacuum leak on Friday. If they can't get the hoses off, I'm cutting the core out.

Well, ya might want to go ahead and call your travel agent
Today the brand new left front caliper/rotor/pad started billowing smoke. Back to the shop tomorrow. They better get this fixed tomorrow because we've got a campsite reserved for this weekend. Un-freakin'-believable!
Was planning on just a new front tire on the BMW tomorrow morning but now I'll be dealing with the van...again. Plan now is to take the wheel off the BMW, toss it and the tire in the van and have them do all that at once.
