straight 6. 300

Anyone pumped up the power in the 6. 300?? More aggressive can? Any other mods that don't cost a ton?

The same topic comes up at least once a week...............log story short: you have a glorified tractor engine, it's not going to make much more power without a ton of money.

Take a peek in the Performance section further down the page: Ford Inline Six, 200, 250, 4.9L / 300 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

IMHO mentioning performance and the 4.9L engine in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

theyre good turbo candidates, theyre pretty stout pieces of equipment. ironically, if power is what youre after, you don't have much of a choice but to turbo it.

a budget turbo setup could be put together, but it still wont be cheap considering its nowhere near ready to be turbo'd in stock trim. fuel system, ignition, tuning (and tuning prep i.e. mass air conversion) all add up.

Maybe I'll just dump a diesel in. I'm looking for torque with out changing the gears so I can still be on the highway with it when need be

well I certainly wont tell you not to put a diesel in it, but you can turbo the 300 with its factory setup to run low boost. itll take sourcing some archaic oddball parts, but it can be done. it wont be fast, but it wont be so slow you think its broken. you could make it a nasty lil motor with the money it costs to swap the diesel and all the associated parts. if you source a turbo and build all the piping, you can make big power for less than 2k (perhaps far less than 2k), and of course beefing up the drivetrain.

Just change the gears and bump the timing (search 6 liter tune up) and it's a whole different animal and cost way less than a diesel swap. Mine's a pig on the highway, but gutsy and quick(ish) everywhere else and I run 3.08s. 3.55s are an enormous improvement.
