Help with code 18
Hows it going guys. My brother's girlfriend just picked up a '92 F150 Flareside 4X4 5.0 with 5 speed in it, and its pink just like mine. 114k miles with a clean body.
I ran it for codes when she got it here because it seemed to be running a little rough to me. I got code 41 in CM and 18 in KOER. 41 is a HEGO lean condition and 18 is spout circuit open. I can't seem to dig up much on code 18. I want to fix it asap as I think it is causing the truck to run rough. Any help would be appreciated.

First thing to check would be the spout connector being there:
Drivers side fender, near the master cylinder.
If it is there, check with a timing light that the timing doesn't stay static in one place, it should move, especially with throttle.
Oh and 41, you ought start poking around for a vacuum leak.

Another member has a similar problem with code 18. It was suggested to pull the PCM harness, and check for intermittent open in the wire leading from the SPOUT to the end of the harness. That would be my initial start in pinpointing if the code returns. Another thought would be that someone didn't seat it correctly and it threw that code and the codes haven't been cleared.
Also, I agree about a vacuum leak causing the code 41. That wonderful white vacuum line for the blower door modulator will produce similar problems as it seems its always brittle or broken.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and checked the spout. It was good and I reseated it. Out of curiosity I checked the timing. Holy dear lord. Someone didn't know what they were doing. The base timing with no spout was 33* BTDC. I went ahead and set it back to 10* and it seems to run MUCH better. I'll have to check the wiring another day as I have to go to work shortly. I'll also put a vacuum gauge on it when I check the wiring.

That was timing with the spout out?!?! Damn.
That may also take care of the 41. If its that much smoother being at 10 degrees base (or 14 if your, well, me) I'd clear it out, send her off in it, and tell her we'll look at it again next weekend.
