I wouldn't say I hate chevy (or GM) but I will say my experience with the 3 I have owned has convinced me to never buy another. 1 was a chevette -- nuff said. 1 was a caprice -- cracked head. And one was an Oldsmobile -- leaking intake gasket on a water passage and a blown transmission. Those were all cars. Never owned a pickup. But the ones I've ridden in haven't convinced me to change my mind.

I can appreciate the enthusiasm for Ford products, but the other guys have their "good un's" too.

The way I look at it is this:

I prefer Ford products above the rest. To me, they're as good as you can get. But I wouldn't turn my nose up at a 06 Pontiac GTO or Corvette either. I'd buy the 'stang, GT, or F150 first (gien the money), but if for some reason couldn't, I know I'd be happy enough with the others.

As good as Fords have been to me, the worst driving car I've had (see other forum thread on this) was a 1980 LTD with the 351 VV (Variable Venturi) engine.

Of course, it wasn't as bad as the 1984 Pontiac I had, but like I said, they have their good ones and bad ones too.

For me, make it a Ford first, though.

I don't hate GM or Dodge. I just prefer Ford right now I think they are a bit more heavy duty and built more solid and I know a bunch of people with gm trucks that are trouble free but, I just don't care for the styling at all there SUV are OK I guess and there current line of cars looks promising I just do not like the looks of the Pick Ups and haven't for a long time.

Do we count from the original post or most recent dead post for the mining awards? If it's the original, then congrats- you mined a five year old thread that's already died twice!

I bought a 94 Chevy C1500 W/T with the 4.3L V6. Electrical problems galore, rattles, welds failing, were part of the package. Pure junk at 69K miles. I will say, however, that the newer trucks seem to be far better put together now.

I replaced it with a 96 Dodge Ram 1500 W/S with the 3.9L V6. Solid truck, however had crappy tires, and was underpowered and thirsty. Traded in with 30K miles.

I replaced it with a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins engine. Awesome truck that would pull anything you attatched to it. My only repair item was an A/C compressor. Still had the original tires on it when I sold it at 108K miles, after I pretty much no longer needed a 3/4 ton truck.

I replaced that with the current 97 F150. Again, a base fleet level truck with the 4.6L V8. It's had a few niggling issues that are not out of line for 166k miles. Fuel mileage is on par with the old V6 Chevy, with mindful driving. I'm ready to find a new owner for this one now, as I'm simply downsizing to the minitruck now in my driveway.

From my experience, the Ford and Dodge trucks were the better of the three. GM has however, recently seen the light with their near bankruptcy, and is being forced to actually build vehicles that don't fall apart a couple of years after they are purchased.

I am just a car/truck guy and never owned and unless I win the lottery a new truck but have had chevys and hated them a pain to work on and I seemed to do a lot of it but all the used fords I have owned were better built.

Both chevy trucks I owned went to the junk yard after I lost money selling them to the next owner and all the ford trucks I owned I made money or broke even on and they went on to drive for years till I lost track of who had them.

Now I like Dodge trucks and I never had one but my best friend had a 96 one ton with duel wheels and a big utility box on it and he is just selling that truck now after all these years and she has been worked hard only big repair it had was a tranny rebuild a few yrs ago and he replaced it with a 07 Silverado 2500 but not by choice but because the ford f-250 was $8000. to 10000. more for the same truck.

I don't like the looks of the ford f-150 after 1997 at all and would want a 300,302,351 or 460 in my truck instead of a 4.6 or 5.4 so if I need to replace my 86 f-150 and can't get a nice 90-96 f-150 I will start looking at Dodge just for the looks if nothing else.

We have to hate them, thats the rules. Chevy is the company ford guy's love to hate, however, it's a love hate relationship, we need chevy and dodge. It's an old rivalery that has given me lots of fun over the years, from the drag strip to the trails. We love our chevy and dodge brothern, but we love to bash them as they do us, it's all in fun. It started in high school when I was racing fords and alot of my friends were running chevy. Us ford boy's would team up with the dodge boy's and the AMC guy's cause chevy had us out numbered. To this day I have tolerance for dodge and AMC, but rather die than drive a chevy, not because thier junk (which they are ha ha) but because thier are natural born enemy. Ford and chevy is like oil and water, they don't mix. I belong to an american muscle car forum where were all repesented and get along just fine, but we poke fun at one another and bash each other, but it's all in fun. Life is too short to take it to serious. We need chevy, it gives us a reason to live and get out of bed in the mornings. Get up and find a chevy to beat or at least bash ha ha. "NO", life wouldn't be the same without chevy, long may they live!!!!

It depends on the years personally for me. Our suburban has 300+ on the same engine and tranny it used to tow a 27 ft boat from socal to las vegas several times a year. It's been an absolutely amazing vehicle. My dads old truck is at 400+ same engine and the only reason it has another transmission is because I believe he said my mom put it into park one day while she was going 25 or something of that sorts. It is now my brothers truck. They are both 95's and I personally love them. If I had to get any truck in the 70's itd be a Ford all the way, nothing in the 80's and between 90-94 it'd be ford bronco or trucks but 95+ I would chose a suburban or a chevy pick up 1500 ans 2500 (i'd go with a F350 over chevy's 3500 any day) as well I would chose a ranger and explorer over an s10 blazer or truck. So it really just depends on the car and years for me. I personally dont like Dodge at all, so many transmission problems. THe worst my family ever had and I have ever had with Chevy is simple replacement of spark plugs, tail lights lol, and a radiator here and there. Not until my dad said he had to put his 05 in the shop because the 4wheel drive is completely screwed up. So It is a give and take with me. I love F250's F350's Explorer's and Rangers, but I also love the Silverado 1500 and 2500's and Suburbans/Tahoe's. And I wouldnt mind one of the 97+ f150's. I have noticed some harshness toward chevy/dodge/toyota but this is a Ford website is it not? We arent here to talk about how amazing chevy/dodge and them are, no we are here to talk about Ford, because we all own Fords and all love our Fords.

A Ford "SITE" that includes forums to discuss other brands (GENERAL Auto and Ford vs Comp.)

I wonder what a TRUE BLUE Ford lover would do with the Mitsubishi transmission in his "new" '88 Ranger???

I wonder if the German V6 will depress him.....better hide the foreign made Winchesters........

The BORROR.....errr.....I mean the HORROR of it all!!!

i have a chevy or two in my stable as well as a couple of ford trucks. I operate a construction company and i beat my trucks to death .I like both chevy and ford ford seems to handle more weight than chevy but chevys seem to get better gas mileage. in addition ford motors and trannys never seem to die but all kinds of little annoying things break.. now dodge makes a horrid truck that is completely useless. I appreciate any good piece of American machinery unfortunately dodge doesnt make any.. but i do respect chevy and ford for their products they are built Bob tough

I don't understand "brand loyalty". All of the car companies, domestic and foreign, make some good and some bad vehicles. If I'm in the market for a given type of vehicle, I look at what each one has to offer and decide on which one I feel is the best. When I make my decision, I give them money and they give me the vehicle and a warranty. It's strictly business. I don't owe them anything else and they don't owe me anything else.
