1956 wipers

After driving my 56 F100 daily for almost 8 years with no wipers, I am going to install some. After a job change , I now drive 16 miles on the interstate every day. I have good arms and new blades. I also have a universal electric wiper motor . It goes back and forth like an original vacuum motor did. The bar on the shaft of the motor is straight across . I know from pics I can see that the original was "bent" about 45 degrees from straight. Can anyone tell me the correct angle and the distance from the center, where it goes on the shaft to the point where the linkage rods connect? A good , clear , upclose photo would be great. Thanks.

I feel for you, probably some one will help, first we have to find a wiper
system that actually works. These were weak from day one my opinion.
I'll check my shelves for you & see what I come up with sam

I know there is a duel diaphragm fuel pump
for the Y block. But isn't there one for the
flat engine as well? They work well on my Y
blocks even under WOT if in good condition.
Why go to all the trouble of going electric when
all ya have to do is change out the fuel pump.
And plumb it in. Right? That being that your vac
wiper motor is in good shape.

How come sometimes you don't get the "similar" threads on the bottom??? You might consider changing to a jeep wiper system.

I can't help you with the wiper linkage but here is a question that I have always wondered about: Why did the 53-55 wipers have a left and a right and both go from right to left when they wipe but the 56 wipers go from inside to outside?

I think the 53-55 style wipes more windshield so this would seem like the 56 wipers were not as efficient and was a step backwards. Was it because of the new curved windshield?

jimcar thanks. That might be what went on a factory electric wiper motor. The factory elect motor must have went round and round. The vacuum motor, and my electric replacement went/go back and forth.I do not have an original vacuum motor. Her is what I have.
Check out these pics.In the first pic is what my "replacement" motor has on it now. In the second pic is what I believe the original one looked like. What is in the pic is drawn on paper with a sharpie.I need to know the measurement from the center to the pivot point on each end and the correct angle of the "bend". I might make a new crossbar out of a round disc about 3" in diameter. The first hole will be easy to place , then I can guess at the second hole and redrill a couple of times if necessary. Thanks all.

I now have working wipers on my '56. Since I didn't have the part to fit on the motor shaft, for the wiper linkage to hook to, I had to figure it out myself. I started with a round metal disc, about 4 inches in diameter. With the motor and disc mounted I moved the wiper arms to the end of their travel and marked the disc where they needed to be attached. I'm pleased with the results except the passenger side has a little less travel than the driver side.
