My truck is a 1956 ford. It has a 1977 LTD motor in it (302).I have a new battery, selinoid and starter. I also replaced the battery cables. When I turn the key the selinoid clicks and the starter does not ingage. Not sure what the prob is......any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Sounds like low battery, have you tried jumping it. If jumping doesn't work starter would be my next guess. Can you take the starter and battery into a local auto parts store for testing?
Ooops guess I should read your post more thoroughly. Sorry looks like you tried my suggestions.
start with the switch first.
by-pass it on the main terminals of the switch with a piece of metal, It will arc heavily so be careful!!!! If the starter kicks-in at that point then the contacts in your starter solenoid are shot. Cheap and ez fix. If nothin happens, It's either your battery or starter. At that point tap the starter while or before you try to start it.
First off, welcome to FTE. You have come to the right place for information. Glad to have you on board. You didn't say if you replaced all the parts to correct an existing problem or if this is a first time start up. It sound to me like you have a bad connection somewhere, either power or ground. The clicking of the solenoid does not mean that it is making internal contact. As mentioned above, jumping the solenoid will tell you if it is bad. If you are sure your battery is fully charged and when you jump the solinoid nothing happens, then my guess would be the starter. Not completely unusual to get a bad part now days. Also there could be a bad connection on the new battery cables. Re check all connections and make sure all connecting points are clean and tight. That being accomplished and still no luck, I would pull the starter and take it to be tested. Hope this helps, keep us posted on your progress.
Check all the connections on the battery, the starter, on the solenoid, and also be sure to check that the ground cable is secure to the frame AND you have a good solid connection on both ends of the ground strap running between engine and frame.

Been a long time since I checked this post out, my bad, I did get the truck running. I put a new battery in but it still didn't want to start. I think I forgot to mention I didn't start the truck for 5 years or so (building a garage). Anyway, once the new battery was installed I sprayed some mystery oil on the pistons and let it sit for a few days, then gave it another try..the motor turned but only for a partial amount each time I turned the key...after about 5 or so tries the motor became free and it actually fired and ran. Once the oil burned through it ran really well once again. One thing happened I thought was interesting is once the truck started a Chipmunk blew out on the exhaust!!! HAHAAH
