transmission help

I have a 2003. It is four wheel drive. The truck has about 403000 miles on it. If I don't let the truck warm up for 10 to 20 minutes depending how cold it is outside when I put it in drive it takes about 10 to 15 seconds or longer sometimes to actually go into gear. If I put it down in low it will go right into gear and I shift it manually up to drive. Once it is warm it shifts fine. Is this something that can possibly be fixed or do I need to start saving for a new one.

I do not tow trailer very much.

Automatic or manual? I dont know crap about trannys but there are some on here that know there stuff and need to know which one it is. I would say at that many miles on it, its time for a rebuild.

It is possible that the feed bolts under the valve body have worked loose and are leaking. Most likely the seals are worn out in the forward clutch.
