Stuck in first when cold?
Hello
I was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions on my mothers 94 aero. It is a 94 auto, awd, with 4 litre.
When leaving the driveway in the morning it does not want to shift out of first gear. This happens for the first block or so and then operates normally. It happens in drive and over drive but will shift into second manually. It also seems to be somewhat intermittent, happens around 75% of the time. The fluid level is good and has been recently changed.

sounds like it is time to rebuild the transmission, the pump is worn and over time and in cold conditions( cold start and drive off) it will not shift right, until it warms up and builds the right pressure ....

WOW I forgot about this post. I bought this from my mom shortly after the first post. I have figured out it only happens after a long drive. I drive 10 kilometres one way to work and have no problems. Once a month I drive 50 kilometres to get supplies and the next morning it will not want to shift. I drive in second until I hit the second or third stop sign then it is fine. It has around 160 thousand kilometres on it.
