is that something that would "wash itself out" if that were the case so it wouldn't continually drain?

Possibly. It's really a basic system. That's why the comment about a one shot deal. The hpop can get unfiltered oil straight from the oil pump.

That would be a pleasant surprise but I'll not hold my breath. This is exactly how things started progressing last year at this time which lead to the replacement of all the parts. Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky and it was a fluke. I'll see if the truck starts this weekend.

If it was the wrong hpop or gasket the problem would have showed up that day not months later.
