oil pan overfull

95 f350ccd - 7.3

In June I had a new hpop from Diesel Care & Performance installed as well as having all the orings on the injectors replaced which seemed to fix my original issues.

My son went out yesterday to start the truck and it would only crank. A little white smoke and then nothing. I went out this morning and only would crank - no smoke this time. I pulled the plug on the top of the hpop and low and behold.....no oil in the reservoir! Dipstick now reads high which stands to reason.

Question is: Is there something else I should be looking at as a cause for the oil to be draining out of the hpop? (this was the original reason we did the replacement and orings to begin with) I realize the new pump could go bad but I want to ask before I waste more time and money.

Did they use the correct hop gasket? No that will not cause a high level

What year is the truck. There is a anti drain valve on them and depending on whether your truck is early or late depends on where the check valve is.

Duh. I just saw 95. It's probably got it in the hpop then. Could be your issue.

Well. See if it does it again. It was probably a one shot deal

Yeah....I don't think so. Unless someone has another theory there is no reason I can come up with for the oil to drain out of the hpop reservoir. Especially as a "one shot deal".

Fordman - We used the truck on Friday so it was less than 48 hours.

It can only be hpop,IPR,hosses or injector orings.

if when hpop was replaced they did not replace IPR seals that would be my first look. then if they are OK run it with the valve covers off and see if oil is coming out at base of injectors.
If none of that is issue I would pull hpop and check gasket for being the correct one and not damaged.

I had this issue at one point...been here done that..it is glorious when fixed!!

That reminds me; we also replaced the ipr valve while it was apart. didn't make sense to go that deep and leave an old part in there.

Basically in a holding pattern. Nobody is quite sure where to look. Like I said, all the parts in question were just replaced less than 5000 miles/6 months ago so....

What I did do was drain almost 3 quarts of oil out of the pan. That took me to being just about half a quart low on the dipstick. I'm guessing that made me overfull by about a quart since the hpop reservoir holds a quart give or take. I'm kinda at a loss where the extra oil came from since I did the oil change and I haven't added any. (No there is no antifreeze in the oil) I'm hoping I just screwed up.

After draining I refilled the reservoir, cranked away and voila....she starts. Haven't had the need to go anywhere lately but did crank it over and fire it up yesterday just to see if it held oil for now. It did. This thing is worthless as **** on a bull on bad roads so I don't know when I'll get to drive again as our weather is marginal at best right now.

but that can only be "repaired" by replacing or rebuilding the pump? Again?

Wouldn't that be a warranty issue? Of course I still have to pay someone to do it again....

as I said. Not to sure on what year they changed the design. My 97 has it in the block. Not the hpop. Yours may be in the hpop being 95 though. It wouldn't take much to break that seal though. A tiny piece of debris and your drained
