New to the board here but had a problem come up today.
I have a '99 Ford F150 with around 50k on it and something went wrong today. Started it up this morning and was driving it around and it has a decent vibration to it when you hit the gas pedal. I'm not sure what it could be. Does it in reverse and drive. When you let off the pedal, all is fine. At first I thought it was a flat or low tire but all is good there. That's just kind of like what it feels like with the vibration. I drove it a little more to see if I could figure it out and that was when the service light flashed at me a couple times then went away. Now it is on all the time?
What engine is in the truck?
You need to get a scan for codes.
When the check engine light flashes it indicates a
misfire that is bad enough to damage the catalytic convertors.
It is a 5.4 V8 Triton. Doesn't get drove a lot as I have another vehicle that gets better milage. Yeah, the light flashed at me a quick twice then went away for probably five minutes and now is stuck on....
Go to Auto Zone and have them connect a scanner and give you the failure code... will be something like 301, 302, 303... etc..... the last number is the cylinder that is miss fireing 1 , 2 , 3, etc.. You probably have a bad COP (ignition coil) on that cylinder. 90% of misfires end up being the COP. You can buy generic on e-bay for about nothing ... Auto Zone should have one for $60.
