Vibration/Chatter when parking/turning
Just yesterday, I started getting very noticeable vibration, chatter, and a pretty nasty scraping noise coming from the front of the car during low speed(5mph) turns - the kind you make durning a u-turn or parking. I can feel this in the steering wheel, and even the gas pedal.
Please tell me this is not a big deal - I've spent @ $2000 in the last 4 weeks as this car is quickly becoming a nuisance(Failed thermostat, failed fuel pump/line, AC compressor shot, radio display out). I'm losing faith here.....
Thanks.
I had a similiar chatter in my 2000 Sport when I bought it. Mine could be felt in the steering wheel, when turning at low speed. Changing out the power steering fluid cured mine. I hope yours is as simple......
By the way, our models use Mercon ATF as power steering fluid.

I told the mechanic I took it to to check the power steering fluid. He indicated to me that it was not a power steering issue, but was, in fact a 4wd issue and that he would have to checkout the transfer case and possibly rebuild it. He said my car is trying to go into 4wd during low speeds turns. I called the Ford Dealership just to ask if they had heard of problems like this. They said that it wasn't a problem, and that's just how 4wd Explorers turn - whatever.... It seems odd to me that the transfer would go out at 40k miles....
Help?
