I am running dorman. The only thing I can see is that it eliminates the wire connection on the inside of the valve cover. The wire harness and valve cover gasket are one in the same. So eliminates the 50 cent mod. How good they are??? I don't know time will tell. I got these this last summer when replacing cups and injectors. And put on 10,000 miles so far.
Yea, I don't really think they are my problem, but I'll put a meter on them to double check. I truly think I either have a ruined injector (from water in the fuel "cracked cups") or I messed one up while changing internal o-rings.
Well I found the smoking gun! Started to do my compression checks with cylinder #2. Got the gauge in place and hit the starter. Hydro-locked! Scratched my head and pulled #4 glow plug. Just a lucky stroke..... Hit the starter and fuel went everywhere!I pulled and disassembled #4 injector. Little bits and pieces of injector guts came falling all over my rag. The lift spacer and the two small dowel pins were crushed. So now I just need to order some parts. I think that will take care of my problems.
Grab an injector from another cylinder and toss it in to check compression again. It's not gonna be true because there oil on the rings but at least you will have an idea if there is other issues internally.
Well, I rebuilt that injector. Put it back in and it still ran like crap! When I pull the control wire off of #6 there's no change. All others changed the sound of the engine running. Some change more than others. CCT showed cyls 2,4 and 6 faults.
I said screw it and ordered a set of reman injectors from Black Cloud. Their enhanced stock version. I hope that was a good choice! Anyway, it's torn back down to parade rest and almost ready to re-install my remans. I have to change the oil/filter and the fuel filter, and make sure all the oil/fuel is out of the cylinders. I have my fingers and toes crossed!
Three of four of the old injectors on the passenger side had black **** on the nozzles. What does this indicate? I have seen a site/forum somewhere that gave indications of different injector conditions, but haven't been able to find it again...

I always tell people to make sure they get NEW nozzles and nozzle springs when purchasing re manufactured injectors. Rebuilding injectors at home isn't very practical since the very few folks have milling equipment that can make a .001" pass. That is what you need to set the armature plate clearances. I have had great luck with Rosewood diesel. I send my original injectors to Jim and he turns them around in about a week. My daily driver has Rosewood remans with just over 100k miles on them so far and they are still running great.
The different color/gunk on the nozzles is usually an indicator of how many nozzle orifices are clogged or restricted. I rarely see a set of injectors removed from an engine where the entire set looks the same.
New/Reman injectors and new glow plugs. That did the trick! Running like a singer sewing machine!!! A great big singer sewing machine! Thanks to Gary at Black Cloud Diesel for his help and thanks to all on FTE for the support! Now off to fuel up!
