never knew they came stock. I think I found that I can use lap belt and use the tether on the actual safety seat and clip it to seat base metal or secure an eye hook for it on the floor behind seat-if that makes any sense to ya. I'm going to get on it tonight. a lot of laws and regulations on these seats now and I would be absolutely crushed if anything happened and I knew I could have prevented it.

try mid fifties They got retracting and non retracting kits that will fit your truck.
1948-79 Ford F-100 Shoulder Belt Kit, Bench, Black, 2 Retracting & 1 Center
1948-79 Ford F-100 Shoulder Belt, Retract, Hard, Bucket, Charcoal
And upper mounts you can cut and make work somehow.

Hey Joe, I'm looking at the same issues for a '55 IH R-140 we picked up recently. Not sure about the laws out there, but I think your mention of the tether is the key. My daughter just turned 2 and I installed a larger, forward-facing car seat for her in my '02 Ranger's right hand seat. The shoulder restraint is part of the belt of course, but the seat clips that hold the belt in the car seat along with the manual state that you can just use the lap belt and safety tether, probably due to center seat mounting. You'll just have to add the D ring for the tether clip and make sure it's secured well directly behind where you are mounting the seat. Once it's in, snug the belt up good and remove any slack from the tether and you should be set.
I need to start from scratch and install at least 3 lap belt sets along with the rear D ring in center. Will search the archives for the best approach. Safety is one area not to make compromises, especially where little ones are involved.

thanks for the input Boomer-that is exactly what I did and feels much more secure than the seat in our 2013 Edge...go figure. The seat was really secure with only lap belt, but only took minutes to install eye bolt. He is getting used to the sound of the doors slamming, which is a good thing, as it used to get his bottom lip tremblin when he was an infant.
